What Is Blasphemy?

Blasphemy is the act of contempt that expresses a lack of reverence for God or claims the attributes of a deity considered sacred, such as belief in the existence of God. In some cases, blasphemy in the Old Testament means insulting the glory of God, but in others it means directly attacking God or indirectly mocking him. Greek literature, it contains doubts about the power and mockery of the nature of the gods and is used to insult and mock the living. Blasphemy is the act of verbally abusing a loving God and doing the same in deeds or gestures.

It is not the act of letting go of swear words or of committing religious acts in a so-called profane way. Even a true saint would not do such things if he were so sure that he could be honest with God and man. In English, blasphemy is a statement that insults God, Christ, Allah or Mohammed and causes deep offense to the followers. A measly bit can hurt the heart and soul of a man, his family and even his wife and children. Although there have been some prosecutions over the centuries, it is not a crime in the United States. No distinction is made between blasphemy and heresy, although the perceived rejection of God or the rejection or denial of the teachings of a religion or belief system is considered blasphemous.

It is heretical when the insult to God includes the declaration that God is cruel or unjust, that noble works of man are against God, or that the declaration is against faith. blasphemy may occur if someone who is officially blaspheming intends to degrade divinity, or if blasphemous words are used with such intent for their meaning. Blasphemy is the refusal to give glory to God. Saint Thomas said: “There is no sin of faith to attribute to God what does not belong to him, nor to deny what is in him”.

one can conclude that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is more than a single sin committed by a religious leader. All people who hear the message of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit and reject it publicly and defiantly are also guilty of an unforgivable sin. Some interpreters consider “blasphemy against [the Holy Spirit]” to be a description of the sin of unbelief in general, while others consider it a special form of blasphemy.

Jesus himself says: “Whoever speaks the words of the Son of Man will be forgiven”. If anyone does not receive God’s offer of forgiveness through faith in Jesus, he is a man who will not be forgiven unless he repents and believes. As the Bible and elsewhere say, people can hate Jesus and deny that he exists, but those who do not believe will not be condemned because they do not believe in the name of “the only Son” of God. Anyone who believes in him, whether they believe or not, is “not condemned,” but people who hate him are.

The strange thing is that many people are willing to commit unforgivable sins, such as doubting God, questioning God at some point, or having invasive thoughts. If a person truly asks God for forgiveness, there is no sin that God will not forgive, but we have the impression that there will be no forgiveness for a person who is rejected by God for this reason. D.A. Carson said: “Such people consciously reject the work of the mind – thoughtful, deliberate and self-centered.

Blasphemy is the act of denying the testimony of the Spirit and knowingly attributing it to other (usually evil) sources. Jesus said, “I can forgive a man, and man will forgive sin and blasphemy, but I will not forgive the blasphemy of my Spirit. Therefore I say to you, that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit should not and cannot be forgiven, and I will not forgive it against myself.”
